ROTTEN SOUND-MURDERWORKS
The perfect blend of early Earache Grind filtered through Old school Stockholm Death. This fucking slays....This has some of the thick low end detonation deathgrind sound of Embalmer combined with some of the unrelentingly harsh grindcore of Yacopsae and alot of the raw bass heavy brutality of Dismember's Ever Flowing Stream. They dont pull punches but they also dont just bash out endless blastbeats. This is the best grind record iv heard since Nausea's Condemned to the System. Just listen to the song Agony.... I get bored with a lot of modern grind after listening to so much of it and collecting it. I was listening to a lot of Cannibal Corpse & Minor Threat in 7th grade and then i found a copy of the almighty! Suppression/Cripple Bastards split 12" lp Bovine put out in a record shop. I went back and bought all the vinyl with black & white covers and the first Black Metal album i bought, (Hecate Enthroned's Slaughter of Innocence).I used to steal kids bikes and sell the parts to buy records. So grind is special to me. That Suppression lp gave me the same rush and thrill i got when i first heard Countdown To Extinction and Ride The Lightning. Rotten Sound kills it. Get yourself a copy of Murderworks. If you dont already own the Suppression/C.B. split or the Suppression discography cd your fucking up. Bovine also put out a lot of other good records worth seeking out.

GHOULGOTHA -TO STARVE THE CROSS
I heard about this band's demo in By The Ax I Rule,great fucking zine. The great guys who run Codex Obscurum sent me that zine. Codex is a great zine also. Id love to hear their demo...This has a lot of very distinctive riffs&hooks and grooves to it. Semi glossy pro production that showcases the powerful song writing and range of this band. This is powerful thrashing death doom. Well written and executed Thrash inspired riffs bleeding into death doom grooves.To put it pragmatically this sounds like Cianide & Incantation getting stoned and jamming on early Slayer or a short attention span Necros Christos.. Abyssic Eyes intro sounds like a Hell Awaits outtake.....Its not overly technical but it still has distinctive epic riffs that stand out like Switch 625 . Impressive guitar work . Impressive in the old school fashion. Not in the fucking jockish "look bro i can play more notes per second then anything on Effigy Of The Forgotten" sense. Good riffs, Headbanging evilness, and brutal doom grooves. Beautifully executed time changes. This rules.

SWORDWIELDER - GRIM VISIONS OF BATTLE
This is some fist-fucked brutal death obsessed crusty stenchcore. Amebix&Doom influences being shredded apart by a stripped down Axegrinder take on HammerHeart/Twilight of The Gods. The song Out of Hades has an obvious Fade to Black homage intro&buildup... All the lyrics are centered around war, battle and the destruction of humanity, instead of the angry dirty hippy lyrics that seem to dominate most of this genre... I hardly ever listen to crust. I never got into that scene. Im not very knowledgeable of it and dont feel like digging through 'im mad at the world because i dont eat meat/if you're not dirty&homeless&poor you're a poser'got any spare change? ... shit...... I lived in downtown Portland and half the homeless junkies were rocking dreadlocks and Profane Existence related patches and smelled like death. It never interested me to be a part of that scene. I marched at the front lines of all the Occupy protests, when i was already on probation for assaulting a police officer. Iv got an extensive record for fighting cops. I hate the police and promoting chaos rules. I was hoping a riot would jump off. I was in a riot in 2006 when i was in federal prison and that was pretty cool but i've always wanted to be in a street riot. But the dirty hippy punks were chanting "this is a peacful protests" instead of smashing it up..The Occupy was a couple blocks from my apartment. You could smell it two blocks away.No bullshit. I used to go there to score weed&obscure hallucinogens. Once me and my friend Emma couldnt find the Zombie walk so we went to the occupy and threated to eat the dirty hippies brains until they gave us weed to go away. I left that corpse paint on for about a week... So i dont know that much about Crust music...

DEATHHAMMER-EVIL POWER

This Norwegian horde is pure bang your head for satan , true old school satanic metal . Fucking total Show No Mercy /Seven Churches/Endless Pain/Welcome To Hell brand of evil played at a 'Death Side' tempo. This carries on the torch of true metal and uses that torch to set fire to churches and false metal. They don't try to combine it with death or black metal . This is an unholy atavistic revival of the dark ages before all those genre labels existed .There's nothing modern about this. They just shred out some true metal for satan. The speed and energy of this , despite being old school as fucking Venom, shreds most grind bands. A lot of people have forgotten how brutal this type of shit was.This sounds just like it was recorded in 1985 . This is a honorable remembrance of where this abject heresy all started and it shreds and slays in true service to our master Satan.The modern trendy underground try-hards that scorn traditional metal and scoff at old school stuff like Kreator and Destruction, taking everything too serious, needs to have this record shoved up their fucking ass!
Deathhammer is also the name of the lp Asphyx put out a few years ago. That album is also essential

SUICIDAL ANGELS-ETERNAL DOMINATION

Generic sounding genre album. This sounds like a Kreator cover band branching out into original material. Satanic thrash anthems with titles like 'Slaughtering Christianity:","Quench your thirst with christian souls" and "Vomit on The Cross". It's obviously not as good as Deathhammer's similar work in this vein, but it still slays. And they write unapologetically blunt campy lyrics as bluntly evil as Deicide and NunSlaughter. This would be more impressive if Deathhammer's Evil Power didn't exist. But its still a good genre album thats faithful to the spirit of its obvious influences.

RWAKE-VOICES OF OMENS

This full length doom ritual is equal parts apocalyptic stoner crust and misanthropic black sludge. Like Electric Wizard experimenting with black metal. Blackened ringing arpeggios transitioning into traditional metal hooks and solos layered on top of crushing down-tuned sludge riffs. Harsh screaming vocals phrasing into rough tormented hardcore vocals. Basically this is what you would get if you got baked and put some old warped Shrapnel records vinyl in a blender with Weekend Nachos, EyeHateGod and early Forgotten Tomb. The guitar work is layered and complex without coming off as extraneous technical jerkoff nonsense.Creating a powerful atmosphere of suicidal despair and hatred for the species. There's a lot of straight false bands out there trying to make records like this, like Twilight and all the christian sympathizer bands on 1859 .
            To the point that i tend to avoid anything with the words crust, post or stoner in the description. But this is actually good work. I saw it referenced in a zine alongside Graves At Sea and it was a good purchase. Rwake transgresses the wretched shitheap of boring postmetal progsludge 1859 Records worship. This shit rules and in a lot of ways it goes beyond genre by incorporating a lot of different styles in a meaningful and cohesive way alot of lesser acts cant pull off. Their other album Hell is A Door To the SUn , has the anthem Stoner Tree on it. Get that record also. Stoner Tree is Sweet Leaf for the New Dark Age!

COMBAT WOUNDED VETERAN-DUCK DOWN FOR THE TORSO

No Wave Grind/Power Violence with a lot of jazz timings and weird fucked up shit going on. Bizarre insanity that sounds like: a fast Toadliquor with blastbeats doing Zeni Gava /Gasp mash-ups, Crossed Out' breaking edge, Spazz on acid, and Pre-sellout Locust/Melt Banana without the need for electronics to make it sound crazy.The type of fucked up fringe insanity Slap-A-Ham used to put out. This band kills it with this sound. A lot of bands try this type of experiment and end up sounding like another boring Discordance Axis clone or Neurosis worshiping technical hardcore hackwork, and when that album gets bad reviews, they try again and usually endup putting out some NomeansNo with growling mcgrind mathcore shit. But Combat Wounded Veteran kill it with avant grind violence insanity. They also incorporate a couple weird spoken word cutup sound collages that work well with the chaos like how Gasp's Drome Tiller lp was laid out. It works with the music not simply pasted on as a filler intro/interlude. Mapping Unexploded Ordinance is a surrealist nightmare soundscape using minimalist elements to achieve its effect.

 PARADISE LOST-DROWN IN DARKNESS:THE EARLY DEMOS

Burzum cited the Paradise Lost demos as a main influence in his autobiography. And if you listen to Frozen Illusion from Paradise Lost and then Snu Mikrokosms Tegn off Burzum's Det Som Lp the influence is obvious. Slow shambling down tempo combination of campy late 80s death metal histrionics and more atmospheric 'Early Bathory in slow motion' evilness, Like a blackened Autopsy .

The noisy production of this and the epic evil nature of this and the attitude of this render this an absolute cult classic. There's a lot of distinctive pinch harmonics and saturated distortion on the guitars, that attempts to emulate the slow menacing melodies of Hammer films horror soundtracks, matching perfectly with the demonic vocals fighting for clarity on the warped cassette this was sourced from. After these late 1980s demo tapes Paradise Lost sadly went the way of the various beloved Proto-industrial groups that sold their soul to synthpop. These demos fucking rule. In addition to their noted influence on Burzum.,These demos tapes helped start Death Doom, moving death away from its speed-obsessed thrash roots towards more transgressive sonic explorations of evil.

BEREFT - LEICHENHAUS

This appears to be recorded in one straight session, no editiing. Mentality of The Inanimate is the best track on this record.  Very bleak funeral sludge, the suffocating dissonant doom is combined with harmonic droning walls of piercing feedback and rusty accoustic interludes, Like a low-budget Evoken crossed with a less core Dementia Senex. After Mentality, it briefly gets too melodic in certain sections but the brutality of the vocals save it. They try to layer fx pedals to add texture. Electric Wizard and Skullflower can pull that off, but when Bereft tries , you get the maudlin aftertaste of beardo Isis worship.

There appears to be two vocalists trading off: low/high. One of the vocalist sounds like he has alot of experience doing death metal and the other vocalist sounds like he comes from more of a dark hardcore background, in the vein of His Hero Is Gone. This changes up quite a bit and bleeds into itself like one long harrowing composition. It's a unique full length. This band should move away from the 'Cult Of Luna' aspects of their sound and move towards a noisier death direction. It sounds like most of this band is made up of reformed hardcore musicians trying to cross over into a darker more extreme direction. This is a fucking epic harsh brutal and monolithic effort for the most part aside from the unfortunate dabblings in hipster/core shit.

CHTHE'ILIST -LE DERNIER CREPUSCLE

A gurgling gothic sewer of Death Doom. . Like Demillich crossed with Undergang . Subtle horror soundtrack keyboards and dark ambient effects fleshing out the sewage and alongside the absurdly low vocals Demillich is infamous for you also get Incantation-esque raspy shrieks and occult chanting. Shredding solos and satanic Funkadelic basslines occassionally float to the surface of the sewage, like bloated corpses.The vocals change up depending on the atmosphere.

Very well-layered work that builds like a nightmarish soundscape. Some sounds become buried and then rise from the grave. Unsettling fluctuations in sound..Very powerful metal record with intelligent themes and interesting riffs and atmosphere .
