Witchcraft is a convenient catchall term applied to give order to things ignorant folks dont understand. In Crowley's confessions as well as De Sade's Justine, there's a parable made as to the directly ill effects of christianity's doctrines ordering abstinence and suppression of natural human biological functions. Desires,Needs, and Impulses. These appetites when left unfulfilled creates a neurotic self contempt that leads individuals to aberrant acts of self destruction and willful debasement. Jeffrey Dahmer had a strong christian upbringing as a child so did Ed Gein. They were taught at an early age that they were evil and tainted in the eyes of god because of there homosexuality and doomed from the start .

This of course instilled in them an "Imp of the Perverse" essentially. Because instead of being raised to freely be themselves without hindrance, they were taught that it was wrong and evil. This led them to become desperate at concealment . Dahmer's acts were motivated by a desire to keep what he did secret. He couldnt perform unless the victim was unconscious.He tried to create zombies so he would have a partner that wouldn't leave him due to pathological abandonment issues. The attraction to alot of fetishes and paraphillias , comes from the thrill and rush of doing something forbidden and against the status quo. It is of course religion that gives them there forbidden taboo effect and thus goes the theological subjugation of humanity,making all these depraved fetishes so attractive and arousing.

Then they of course blame all this shit on witchcraft and Satanism. In an effort to not only scapegoat there own responsibility and culpability in the acts. But also provide there herd with a common enemy to rally against and frighten them into further submission. The idea of the Imp of the Perverse, is at its core another name for the Gnostic Demiurge. The Gnostic Demiurge is the term for the cosmic indifferent higher power as symbolized by Lovecraft's Ancient Ones. They're not so much working against us and promoting our self destruction as their just bluntly apathetic and indifferent to it. Because we mean nothing to them.

Look at Rio, she wont take her medication, so now the hiv virus is spreading to her brain and this invisible organism sees the tissues containing her memories, desires and dreams merely as a warm fertile place to breed and replicate itself. Conjure Wife is a funny and amusing novel. It somewhat satires the belief in the supernatural that at its core is just something fanciful humans manufactured as a psychological survival mechanism. So they can pretend that their bound in determinism to the whims of a higher power and not actually in control of their own actions.

This is of course appealling on a large scale because it frees people from responsibility and allows them to scapegoat all the damaging effects of their existence onto someone else. And of course some individuals do end up with a death wish and endup living there lives knowingly without a future .Its subjective as to wether thats a form of freedom or self destruction. Those enslaved by the rat race of conventional morality fail to comprehend that and are in some cases insidiously jealous of it so they act in accordance to their cognitive dissonance&perception bias.
