"BECAUSE MOTHER BRAIN CREATED SO MANY THINGS,WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WE NEEDED.[..] PEOPLE THEN THOUGHT THEY COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT MOTHER BRAIN. THIS CAUSED THE PEOPLE'S MINDS TO WEAKEN"
-PHANTASY STAR 2

In Sega's underrated cult classic old school rpg Phantasy Star 2, the plot centers around a planet of sheeple herded by the ominous deity known as Mother Brain. Mother Brain in this game isn't depicted for the most as anything Orwellian or dystopian for the most part. The populace is happy. Having their lives dictated and controlled by Mother Brain. Grown fat and complacent on the convenience provided by Mother Brain.

In all the towns of the game, control towers link all the people electronically to Mother Brain. The Mother Brain in this game is a darkly prophetic entity that foreshadows our current society's state of being. Mother Brain's presence is vastly similar to that of Amazon/Apple/Microsoft.

You have the Microsoft Kinect device using advanced robotics parts sold at a loss placed inside of Xbox videogame consoles for the purposes of harvesting facial recognition and motion capture data that is streamed directly to the internet.

Prior to the release of Kinect those parts were out of the price range of most diy robot builders. Now they just salvage the parts from Kinects. Why is Microsoft putting these expensive parts in a device they're selling at a loss?

Microsoft openly cooperates with law enforcement. Microsoft used all my data when i was arrested by the FBI and Homeland Security in the mid 2000s. During a Joint Terrorism Task Force investigation. You don't own the servers let alone pay for usage on Hotmail, Facebook ,Gmail etc so all these companies can be conveniently asked to provide data to the government without the need of a warrant. Furthermore, you have various private corporate security agencies setup by former government agencies. These are likely fronts designed to circumvent the Freedom Of Information Act which is not applicable to private corporations.

The sad fact a lot of parapolitics conspiracy theory researchers omit in their work is that for the most all the clandestine shadowplay is extraneous and unnecessary, because the majority of humans walk in line because they're afraid to stand alone..

The majority of humans are monophobic. They would rather be told what to do and have their lives dictated and micromanaged and safely watched over from above by church and state, then take the ardent step of thinking for themselves and being an individual.

Knut Hamsun's novel Hunger is considered a classic of psychological horror. Most people don't get it. They only read one side of the story. It was a sequel to another novel by Hamsun. The farmer's son leaves for America and is never heard from again. Hamsun was in part talking about the madness of modern urban society.

Now we have a further process of dehumanization taking place through the increased dependence on technology. Previously, the only people who spent their lives in cyberspace were autistic spectrum agoraphobics and it was a niche group of individual fetishized in various 1980s cyberpunk science fiction novels.

Now the niche subcultural glamor of William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy has bled out and become a common and accepted method of living ones life. Now William Gibson's novels are boring and take place in the present. I saw Gibson do a reading about 7 years ago. I was the only one in the crowd wearing black leather. I got bored and left to go buy a few hits of acid. Instead of wasting money on something for him to sign.

But in the end, what the fuck is so great about modern reality and the surface world that makes it superior to what's on a screen? Whats the point of fighting it? I spent more time in front of a computer and listening to metal when i was a kid then i did playing outside. Back in the early 1990s. That made you a weirdo computer nerd potential school shooter in the making. Now everybody's fucking doing it.... What happens post singularity when technology reaches the point of singularity in which it is indistinguishable from reality itself?

Phantasy Star 2's plot is genius because they took a form of electronic entertainment and inserted all these thought-provoking ideas of a subversive nature. Its only fitting that complex rpg games like Phantasy Star 2 had a limited release in The States. A lot of classic rpgs were never released stateside due to the complexity and difficulty level of the games as well as the plot and themes.

Americans instead prefer button mashing action games requiring little thought. Society will continue to de-evovle. Devo was right. Devo tried to change it. Mark Mothersbaugh was in the crowd during the Kent State Shootings and tried to wake people up. Instead he just created the geek version of Kiss.
Bottomline is mankind has no future. We're all doomed.
